So, I’ve dreamt about illustrating stationery for almost as long as I can remember. I can’t count the number of times someone has said, “Hey, you should make greeting cards! People would buy these!” Now you can! And even more exciting — they actually have!
Wait, I’ve seen your cards before, haven’t I?
Yes, I did a “soft release” a while ago, but my illustration style and production have evolved since then. Over the last year, I’ve re-illustrated each card with softer, painted fills, and more highlights, details and depth. I’ve also more than doubled the designs from the original 8, with some previous sketches that were rattling around in my head.
So, what changed? Here are the main changes:
Pixel Artwork: The biggest change was ProCreate, (which is an unfortunately named drawing app) that’s been an amazing tool to work with. With an apple pencil, I can draw detailed drawings right on the iPad. I was definitely a bit nervous about moving from hand-drawn → vector, to iPad entirely with a pixel-based artwork at the end, but I’m so pleased that I did.
Industrial strength paper: I also switched the paper-type to a less-thick option (the first generation was rather too sturdy.) The print quality from Metropol Printers in Victoria, BC is exceptional and they are so lovely to work with.
An almost unfathomable amount of hours, decisions, happy dances, and sighs of relief later, I now have fourteen main card designs, three- plant-focused, and two holiday cards. Take a look here. Woo hoo!
Where are they sold?
Currently, they’re available at both Seaberry Garden and Flower locations, in Cook Street Village (where I live, can you get more local?) and Mattick’s Farm, a quaint shopping centre in Cordova Bay.
Thanks for accompanying me on this stationery journey.
